An art teacher, Caryl started doing crane paintings, which were well received at a Bosque del Apache crane festival. Caryl has worked and resided in New Mexico since the 1940’s, As a teacher of The Book Arts and creating reading materials in native languages, Caryl travels to distant corners of the world where she keeps her sketchbook and camera handy to record the life around her. She has published multiple books in Native American Languages, held at libraries around the world. At Three Crane Studio (her own), these impressions become paintings and limited edition etchings and serigraphs. She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and has degrees in painting and design and bilingual education from UNM.
